Geez it’s hard to think that Landri is already 4! She’s grown up in so many ways and it’s been the coolest experience having the privilege of being her parents. Here’s a look back at her third, second, and first birthday posts. It’s kinda crazy how similar a lot of it is to last year’s (she still calls herself a little “grell” instead of “girl” and Rex totally still feeds off her energy)! We love this little girl so much!
Landri has a wonderful passion for life and all of her hobbies. It’s neat to see how excited she sometimes gets about little things – from pointing out “the forest” when we drive by some thick brush alongside the highway to explaining that the rain falling from the sky helps the flowers grow along with sunlight. This is quite possibly my favorite thing about her. It’s hard to choose though – she has a sweet and kind and loving spirit and makes for such a fun and wonderful little family member! In general, she’s very sweet to her brothers (Ty especially) and friends. She shares and loves helping them. But as far as hobbies go, Landri has several! First and foremost, she’s a girlie girl. She loves pretend makeup, doing hair, princesses, dresses, high heels, dolls, mermaids and Barbies. She has also become very interested in puzzles, books, and coloring (all crafts, really), and if they are puzzles or books about princesses or mermaids etc, then that’s just bonus points!!! Landri still loves to play doctor too (and wearing doctor “glubs” haha). Another hobby of Landri’s is helping Mommy. She doesn’t always want to help, but I’d say she does at least 80% of the time. Her favorite place to help is probably in the kitchen making meals – and that, she’ll help with 100% of the time! The girl loves to cook! Landri also really loves the outdoors, whether it’s a “Benture Hike” (Adventure Hike), playing on the swingset, riding bikes, picking flowers, or swimming in a pool, river, lake, ocean, anything!
Okay to be fair though, it isn’t all roses and rainbows. Homegirl can still throw a tantrum with the best of the 3 year olds. I often explain how I remember “tantrums” starting at age 18 months. And oh how that makes me laugh now looking back. Those weren’t tantrums! They were just mild disagreements. Not even blips on the radar. Kinda like hitting a mosquito while driving 70 mph in my suburban. When she turned 3, now those were atomic tantrums. The tantrums peaked at 3.5-3.75 years of age and then went on a downhill towards normalcy as we approached age 4 (which was awesome). But for some reason, just when I was getting used to enjoying only having to deal with Rex’s fledgling tantrums (he’s 2.5 now), Landri has recently decided in the last few weeks that I apparently need more practice!!! The ones she throws these days are epically mind blowing and put all previous tantrums to shame. The passion and fire behind them along with the improved vocabulary is astounding and devastating all at once. I keep warning her that 4 year olds do not throw tantrums, to which (up until today) she responds, “But Mom, I’m still 3. I’m not 4…YET.” Touché. Touché indeed. Anyhow…praying that today she falls for my trick of believing that 4 year olds don’t throw fits and that we are over them more or less for good!!!
M: Well, Scott, it’s been four entire years that you’ve been a parent. What would you say has been the most challenging thing?
S: Her tantrums.
M: Funny, you said that last year! Can you describe the tantrums?
M: Last year you said, “Explosive.”
M: How about the most rewarding thing?
S: There are a lot of rewarding things.
<I don’t have the energy to prod for examples>
M: What do you like the most about Landri at her current age?
S: How she’s able to talk and communicate.
M: What’s your favorite thing she says?
S: I don’t know.
M: I like how she still reverses certain consonants like “grell” instead of “girl” or “princess crells” instead of “princess curls.”
M: What are you most proud of in the last four years?
S: That we have survived the last four years.
M: Funny again, last year you said you were proud of me for not losing my mind, haha!
Here are some of my favorite photos from the last year of this sweet little girl!
