For the second Saturday in a row, I had the opportunity to embark on an awesome outdoor athletic adventure! If you’ve been following my blog, you already know that last Saturday Scott and I backpacked the practically private Bauer Unit of the Guadalupe River State Park. It was awesome. And today, I took a SUP Yoga Class with Candice from Two Rivers Yoga in Gruene, TX which was equally as awesome. Actually probably way more awesome (sorry Scott and Landri!). So what is SUP Yoga? SUP = Stand Up Paddleboard! So SUP Yoga is yoga on a Stand Up Paddleboard! I had never been on a SUP before and was really excited to try it as I’ve seen them at the coast quite often. As it turns out, the SUP requires balance and core strength, as does yoga. Combining the two makes for a very challenging yet VERY enjoyable activity! If you love any of the following, I highly recommend trying SUP Yoga: outdoors, watersports, yoga, and fun! So we all met at NB Paddle Sports (www.nbpaddle.com, where you can rent SUP’s on your own if the yoga part isn’t for you) and started in the Comal River. We paddled past the intersection of the Comal and the Guadalupe River and had our class in a beautiful, wide space on the Guadalupe. The water was nice and warm, the sun shining, and some nice shade from the gorgeous trees on the riverbanks. Absolutely stunning scenery. The perfect spot for yoga. Which was very different than in the studio. There is so much moving around you: the wind, the water, the tree branches, the clouds. Heck, you’re even moving as the wind pushes along your board! I loved every minute though. And I almost made it into full tripod headstand. I did fall sideways off my board though, LOL! I was able to get a quick little crow in too before falling as well. It really makes you laugh and not take yourself too seriously. Such a blast! Here’s a video I found on YouTube if you want to see some SUP Yoga. Unfortunately I don’t have a waterproof camera so I wasn’t able to document today.
Also, here’s Two Rivers Yoga in case you want to try yourself if you’re in the SA area. Beautiful studio with amazing teachers. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to make it out there for a class, but I do love it there. If any of you sign up for SUP Yoga though, let me know! I bet I could be convinced to go again! http://www.tworiversyoganb.com/
