Behind most games, there’s a story of some sort. This week it was about a match-up between two incredible teams: The Steele Knights (12-1) and the Churchill Chargers (11-2). Steele, entered the State Quarterfinal game for the 7th straight year in a row, while Churchill made it’s first appearance in the fourth round of playoffs in two decades. And not only that, but just prior to the start of the season, the Chargers suffered a tragic loss when one of their seniors, Josh Pollard (#12), passed away in his sleep due to a heart condition. If you’d like to read more about the (pre-game) match-up, check out this article and this one.
So, as it turns out, I am running a full marathon in the cold and pouring rain in a few hours, and considering that I’ve changed my mind about what gear to wear about 10 million times and still haven’t decided, this is gonna have to be short. Tonight, Steele became the Region IV Champion for the 6th time in 7 years when we defeated Churchill 38-7. It was a great game – the Knights played awesome!! My favorite play was this ridiculously enormous pass from QB Xavier Martin to Onyx Smith in the end zone. It was insane!!! But my other favorite part of the evening was when the Steele crowd held up “12” signs to honor Churchill’s fallen Pollard during their school song prior to the start of the game. It was such a touching moment. I’m so proud and honored to be a part of this great community.
Congrats Knights! Onward we march to the State Semi Final game, next Saturday here in San Antonio at the Alamodome (I think)! And in the morning, it will be time to channel my inner Knight and go into beastmode just like they do! I’ll let yall know how it goes! 26.2!!!
